This is part of my Quick SEO Wins series - designed to help you take control of your SEO, one practical and impactful step at a time.

If you’re wondering how to get onto page 1 of Google, the truth is, it doesn’t start with complex SEO tricks or expensive tools. It starts with the foundations, and in this blog, we’re talking - getting your titles and meta descriptions right.

These are some of the very first things both Google and your potential clients see - and they’re often the reason someone chooses to click on your website… or scroll right past.

Start here with how to submit your sitemap and get found faster on Google. It’s the first thing I recommend doing before you start building internal links.

Quick SEO Win #2: Internal Links - The Hidden SEO Shortcut for Wellness Businesses

Why Titles and Meta Descriptions Are Your Biggest Quick Win

Your SEO titles and meta descriptions don’t just help Google understand what your website is about - they directly affect how many people click through to your site.

📊 In fact, research shows that the first page of Google captures over 90% of all website traffic, and improving your title and meta description can increase click-through rates by up to 30%. (Source: Backlinko)

If you’re wondering how to build traffic and get more clients, this is where it starts.

Update your SEO Title under Page Settings. Keep it short, focused and capitalised.

💡 Quick Tip: Use ChatGPT to Generate SEO Titles

You don’t have to do this alone. Try this prompt:

‘Write a wesbite SEO title with 50-60 characters for page/blog [title of content]. Include the keyword [e.g perimenopause nutrition support].’

Step 2: Optimise Your Meta Descriptions (150–160 Characters)

If your SEO title grabs attention, your meta description is what convinces people to click. This small block of text appears under your page title in Google results, and it’s prime space to tell searchers exactly why they should visit your site.

Here’s what a good meta description should do:

  • Stay between 150–160 characters to avoid being cut off

  • Include your main keyword naturally

  • Clearly explain the benefit to the reader (what’s in it for them?)

  • Encourage action - think of it as a mini sales pitch for your page

💡 Example (Bad):
‘We offer services to help improve your health and wellbeing.’

💡 Example (Good):
‘Struggling with low energy? Get expert nutrition support for hormone balance and start feeling like yourself again. Book your consultation today.’

Add a custom meta description for every page to help it stand out on Google.

💡 Quick Tip: Use ChatGPT to Write Meta Descriptions for You

Try this prompt to generate ready-to-go meta descriptions:

‘Write a meta description at 150-160 characters for a [page/blog]. Include the keyword [nutrition for hormone balance] and make it engaging and action-driven but in line with my usual business tone.’

Step 3: Clean Up Your URL Slugs (Keep It Short and Simple)

This is still important, but secondary to getting your titles and descriptions right. Your URL should:

  • Be short and keyword-focused

  • Avoid unnecessary words and filler content

  • Use hyphens to separate words

💡 Example (Bad):
/blog/august-news-and-special-offers

💡 Example (Good):
/nutrition-support-perimenopause

What If You Need to Change a URL? Here’s Where 301 Redirects Come In

If you’re updating URLs on existing content, always set up a 301 redirect. This tells Google the old URL has permanently moved and passes SEO value to the new URL - helping you avoid broken links and lost traffic.

Add a simple 301 redirect when changing page URLs to keep your traffic flowing.

The Bigger Picture: How This Helps You Build Traffic and Get More Clients

If you’re asking, ‘How do I get onto page 1 of Google?’, this is your answer:
Start by making it absolutely clear to Google (and your ideal clients) what your pages are about - and why they should care.

This is part of building the essential SEO foundations for your Squarespace website - and it’s one of the fastest ways to start increasing visibility, clicks, and ultimately, client enquiries.
